Introduction to SASE – A New Model for Network and Security at the Edge

On-Demand

The ubiquitous availability of mobile devices, high-speed connectivity, and cloud-based services has altered how and where people work, and these advances have introduced numerous network and security concerns. The problem isn’t how to connect a fixed set of people, devices, and resources but rather how to dynamically, efficiently, and securely connect an evolving mix of people, devices, and resources -- none of which necessarily lives in any permanent fixed physical location.

Secure access service edge (SASE) has emerged as a new model for integrating cloud-based security with software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN) technology to address the multiple network and security challenges at once. That approach is appealing to organizations looking to build secure, seamless access to applications spanning any device, geography, and user.

The discussion will cover:

  • An introduction to SASE
  • A look at potential SASE components and features, such as SD-WAN, cloud access service broker, zero-trust network access, secure web gateways, and firewall as a service
  • Enterprise SASE deployment considerations
  • Top SASE needs, as defined by research and end-user surveys from Futuriom research
  • A discussion of real-world challenges and path to adopting a SASE framework
